Our Garden - April 2014 |
It's almost the end of April and I was out with my camera again. Amazing how much has changed in the last two weeks since I took the last lot of photos (see below). |
The Bluebells are lovely this year and their blue contrasts really nicely with the other spring colours of, for example, the Cotinus and Spiraea. The photo on the right is my favourite of today's trip round the garden. |
This Clematis runs along the fence between us and next door and is really pretty this year with hundreds of flowers. |
We have Spiraea in both back and front gardens - I love the foliage colours. |
As you can see, the yellow Rose is already blooming. The red Roses are yet to flower. |
Snow in Summer - a lovely bright spread of white. |
The Azalea is spreading nicely! |
I'm sure these Tulips didn't flower last year but they're back again this year which was a lovely surprise. |
The Lily of the Valley is so delicate and comes up year after year. |
This Choisya smells delicious as you walk past it. Clearly the Bee likes it as well. |
The first Geranium of this year. |
The Acers provide a good range of colour in the garden. |
I could look at Tulips for ever and not get bored of them! |
I love all the different colours and shapes of the Tulips. |
This Marigold must have self seeded from earlier years. It's just to the right of the photo on the left. |
The plants in the gravel bed (above) and the Aubretia (below) add lots of Spring colour. |
Not sure the Fish appreciate the pretty flowers that are near their pond. |
The conifer / fir trees are interesting at this time of year as well. |
This yellow Choisya (Sundance I think) is full of flowers this year. |
I wondered if our Lilac would flower this year - the answer is Yes! |
The Bergenias are improving year on year - still not 100% convinced they're in the right place but they seem OK at the moment. |
Bedding plants on the left (Clary and Marigolds) and Veg to the right (Courgettes and Runner Beans). I also have some Cosmos in the greenhouse waiting to be planted when it warms up a bit. |
The Tamarisk is a real picture this year. It must have liked its hair cut after last year's flowering season. |
Just to show that veg can look pretty as well - these are Duke of York Potatoes. They are in the bed on the bottom left photo with Swift Potatoes, Broad Beans (centre) and Peas (bottom right). |
That's it for this walk around in April. The following photos were taken a couple of weeks earlier. The second week of April found me wandering around with my camera. Two visits, one early(ish) morning and one the following evening when I got home from work. |
You can just see a shadow of this pretty Acer behind the Magnolia. |
The Tulips put on a good show year after year and the Magnolia is getting bigger slowly. A lot more flowers this year and they're such a lovely colour. |
We're using sheep wool pellets to try and keep the slugs and snails off the Hostas (it worked last year). |
The broad beans and the peas are starting to show. |
The potatoes were hiding under the "tunnels". |
The new Strawberries are flowering nicely. |
The Primulas seem to have lasted for ages this year. So many different colours, lovely to see. |
The Forget-me-nots spread every year - they're so pretty. |
The bluebells are brilliant at this time of year, filling most of this bed. |
This is the best looking cauliflower I've ever grown (really looking forward to eating it!!) |
Perhaps we'll have pork cooked in Rosemary with the cauliflower. |
The fish are very active again, I'm sure they associate my voice with food. |
The Acers are leafing up and looking interesting. |
The Wallflowers are blossoming nicely. |
This lovely Bride was in a pot when we arrived here all those years ago. It's grown quite a bit since then and looks lovely at this time of year. |
This self seeded but it's too pretty to dig out. |
As you can see, the Pigs have moved again. |
There are still a few Daffodils here and there. |
The Aubretia (above) is providing good, colourful ground cover as are these two plants in the gravel bed. |
I love the bright, fresh green leaves in Spring. |
That's not to say I don't like the other coloured leaves, because I do! |
That's it for this month. |
