Our Garden - April 2017
veg

Starting off in the food beds this month. The early potatoes are planted in their sacks and fleeced up in case of frosts. This year's varieties are Swift, Wilja and Charlotte. Main crop this year is Maris Piper but they won't be planted until Good Friday.

I've got the nets put over the rasps, strawberries and gooseberries today to try and make sure we get some of them to eat when they're ready.

broadbeans

Lots of lovely broad beans are promised - one of my favourite veg.

onions

The onions are also coming along well.

corylus

The light was lovely when I wandered round on this particular sunny evening.

anemone

The anemones were really enjoying the sunny weather. Hope they made the most of it because change was forecast.

wallflowers

I've put some little bits of wool into the red thing hanging in the tree - no idea if the birds will take them as nesting material but thought they might like a change.

white flowers

This lovely white flower really brightens up the bed we call the Woodland Bed.

Maybe I love Spring so much because so many lovely flowers pop up, burst into bloom and bring the garden back to life again.

acer

The acers are starting to leaf up nicely.

acer

It's hard to believe the pretty acer on the right was just a twig when we planted it. It's doing really well.

This photo is of the original acer on the other side of the garden.

aubretia

There's just something about yellow and purple in a garden that works.

The forget-me-nots are just starting to flower.

I think Spring is my favourite time of year, so full of new life and so positive.

These blue hyacinth's are in the patio beds with wallflowers.

magnolia

The magnolia is giving the red robin a run for its money as the brightest shrub in the garden.

These two lovely coloured ground cover plants provide a real carpet of colour. The downside is that they don't last long but the good news is that they flower year after year.

One of Jonathon's favourite flower is the primrose. Luckily, they self seed everywhere and add lovely pockets of pale yellow.

daff

We also have quite a few daffs here and there

daff

This one was about past its sell by date but it's quite unusual so I thought I'd put a photo up anyway.

I don't think I planted these grape hyacinths in the gravel bed butthey seem to like it there.

hosta

The hostas are just leafing up. I hope the slugs don't do too much damage to them this year.
