Our Garden - August 2013
hostas

I wandered around the garden, camera in hand, on Bank Holiday Monday before the sun got too bright (and before I'd finished the weeding so you'll have to not see the remaining weeds in the photos please!)

The hostas are still looking good even though there are one or two suspicious chomp marks on them. They're still the best they've ever been.

hydra

The hydrangeas are lovely this year - really deep colours and big heads.

The plants in the pots on the floor are wallflowers waiting to be planted in September.

The fuchsias are pretty this year as well

I managed to get the pampas cut back yesterday - it was getting tricky to walk along the path on the left before then!

courgette

The veg has done well this year. We can just about keep up with the runner beans, keep an eye on the courgettes so they don't become marrows but it all tastes yummy.

This makeshift netting seems to be keeping the butterflies off the brassicas. We had invested in a posher net but hadn't had time to put it together before I took the photos.

rasps

The raspberries have been delicious this year. It's hard to believe that I picked all that were ready the day before and that there are so many ready again. No complaints though, they are one of my favourite fruits.

As I wandered around I realised that the lavender was starting to die back a bit so it would soon be time to harvest it to give to Gilda to make things with.

poppy

I thought the California poppies had finished for the year but one or two had shown themselves which was a nice surprise.

cornflower

We have a few wildflowers around the place to encourage the bees and butterflies etc. As a family of bees seem to have colonised the lacewing house at the bottom end of the garden it might just have worked.

The end of this tour around. It's only when I walk round with a camera that I realise just how much there is in the garden.
