Our Garden - August 2017 |
July was pretty wet and August has started in a similar fashion with the odd dry days which are very welcome when they come along. Saves me watering but everything, weeds included, is growing like topsy. |
The hydrangeas are in full bloom and providing a splash of colour here and there. As mentioned, the ones in the bed (above) were very badly damaged by the strong winds in the spring so nowhere near as many flowers on them this year. |
These flowers don't normally appear until later in the autumn - goes to show the weather is confusing the plants. |
A hardy favourite, flowering year after year (albeit not always in the same place!) |
I was concerned that this buddleia had been competely destroyed by the tree people but it's rallied enough to have a couple of flowers on. |
The echinops are performing well this year. I've had to prop them up because the windy weather doesn't suit them but they seem to be doing OK. |
The beans (both French and runner) seem to be doing well in their planting sacks (rubbish bags that have lots their handles). |
We have a number of varieties of tomato this year - some red, some pink, some orange and these yellow ones. All very tasty. |
The scaffolding is hidden in the photo on the right but it's still there - at least until the end of the month apparently. |
Not as prolific this year, which isn't such a bad thing as it can be quite dominant in the little bed. |
It won't be long before the sedum is in full colour again. |
Here's the scaffolding in all its glory. I'll be so pleased to see the back of it! |
The heuchera are doing well, enjoying the damper weather. | ||
At least a couple of the fuchsias in the pots are surviving (despite being underneath the scaffolding). |
Berries are already starting to appear. I hope it's just because the weather's been a bit autumnal and not a sign of a bad autumn/winter. |
I don't remember this snowball plant being as pretty in earlier years. |
Just about over but still providing a lovely splash of colour. |
The same could be said of this one as well. |
The white nigella was grown from seed collected last season and seems to be doing well even if it hasn't grown very tall. |
Oli the fisher-cat. The nets keep the heron off (we think) but clearly not the cat as he squeezes underneath. That's it for this month. |
