Our Garden - December 2013
fish

We've reached the 8th of December so it's time to wander around the garden with the camera again.

The fish are supposed to be hibernating but, whilst they did go down in November's cold snap, they are looking for food again as the weather's a bit milder.

We'll start at the patio. The wild flower bedding has been taken out and a few more tulips planted in these beds ready for Spring. The Hostas have all died back and it's all looking neat and tidy rather than colourful.

silver birch
Most of the leaves are down now but there is still quite a bit of Autumn colour. The photo above is of the last few remaining leaves on the Silver Birch.
You can see that the birds are still feeding from the small number of peanuts that are still left in one of their feeders.

Some of the plants have decided to start flowering again.

hydra

The Hydrangeas have been deheaded today (after the photos were taken) so the flowers can dry out ready to hand over to Linda at Merrywood next time we see her.

heather

One of the Heathers is starting to flower as well. It's very early for it but I guess it knows better than me.

Amazingly, some of the roses have decided to have another flowering time. Not all of them and not a lot of flowers but there are a few around.

leaves

The leaves on the left belong to gardens near ours and can be seen from ours so I borrowed the view for the photos. The ones above are at the top of the "hedge" between us and next door.

The Acers are just about bare now but the red leaves from the largest one make a lovely carpet.

The Red Robin has just a few red leaves - mainly green now. The red leaves appear in the Spring.

Looking at the photo on the left, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was Autumn rather than Winter.

We have a Marmite relationship with the Pampas - I love it, Jonathon doesn't!!

The first Catkins are already making an appearance on our Corylus Contorta.

broad beans

These Broad Bean plants are in the veg bed (along with the last few Leeks and some Kale). Not sure the flowers will turn into beans though - might be too chilly for that. We also have some cabbage, caulis and broccoli coming along but whether we'll get them or the pigeons remains to be seen.

grapes

The birds don't seem to want the grapes this year. Perhaps they're waiting for it to turn a bit colder before they feast on them.

snowballs

These little white berries are like snowballs so a good reminder of what season it really is.

That's it for this month. By the time I update for January the nights will be starting to get shorter again and Spring will be on its way.
