Our Garden - February 2015 |
The snowdrops are starting to flower so we knew spring was on its way. However .... |
... when we woke up this morning there was a white covering so I raced around the garden with my camera before work. Sorry for the furry quality of this photo. It was taken on full zoom (optical and digital) through my bedroom window and it was snowing! |
The snow seems to accent the different shapes of the leaves. |
The pigs are still in the same place - still haven't decided where to move them to. |
This conifer wasn't quite covered over. |
Nice to see a bit of colour here and there peeping through the snow. |
I knew there was a reason for the ivy everywhere - it's to look pretty when it snows! |
The photo on the right makes me feel chilly just to look at it. |
Don't know if you can tell from the photo above, but the pond was partly frozen over. The fish were hiding down at the bottom of the pond, well out of the heron's reach (I hope!)
The photo on the right is the front garden, it has a completely different colour palette to the back garden.
The photo below is the view from my bedroom window - it's no hardship getting up when I'm greeted with this. |
By the time I got home from work that evening the snow had all melted away and we were back to green. A couple of weeks later I wandered around again, camera in hand, first stop the front garden. |
The aconites are putting on a good show. Great litte flowers, always the first to flower and spread so you get more of them every year. |
These crocus are the first to flower every year - there will be more later. These little cones are on the conifer tree in the front. |
The grass tree on the right is self seeded - not sure how long it will be able to stay there because it's a bit too close to the fence but it has interesting textures. The viburnum above is also self seeded - very helpful having birds and squirrels around - you never know what's going to pop up where. |
Lots of daffodils are peeping through so we should have a good show this year. |
This daffodil in the back garden is the first to show yellow. |
These seed pods are on one of the bushes on the left. |
Plenty of leaves around, holding on to the rain we've had recently. |
As you can see, the pigs are still there! |
A couple of roses must think it's spring. |
Euonymous berries - who would have thought it. |
The helebore flowers are starting to show. |
The path is a bit overgrown but I'll be out with my shears before much longer. |
Squirrels are probably counting the catkins - there are loads of them now. |
The fish think it's spring already because it's so mild. |
The broccoli is looking tasty! |
The Sedum should probably be cut back but I'll leave it a bit longer. |
The primulas add a lot of colour to the garden and are scattered here and there. |
Still quite a few berries around for the birds to eat. |
The snowdrops are spreading and looking pretty. |
I don't really grow herbs but I do like the smell of rosemary. |
The foliage of the Heuchera add colour all year round. I much prefer the leaves to the flowers. |
This little Skimmia Japonica has grown a bit over the year and is now a decent size. |
This was a new project for this month - strawberry towers. I've taken some of the plants from the strawberry bed and some runners and we'll see how successful it is. If it works, I might get some more next year. It was lovely to see a lot of the plants, trees etc coming into bud as I wandered around - spring is definitely on its way. That's it for February. I'll add more photos next month. |
