Our Garden - February 2017
aconites

aconites

It's good to see that Spring is springing with the lovely aconites providing sunshine yellow colours in the front garden.

viburnum

The aconites go really well with this spiky plant that Janet gave me. She warned me that it would spread - she wasn't kidding!

snowdrops

snowdrops

Another firm favourite at this time of year is the beautiful snowdrop. Such a pretty little flower.

oli

I had a helper with me as I wandered around this morning. He seems to be at his happiest running around the garden with a human!

oli

A few minutes after this he'd sneaked under the nets and was sitting on the tub you can see! One day he'll fall in!

The plants on the right are bluebells, getting ready for their turn to shine later in the Spring.

pampas

My shed is home to quite a few pelargoniums - seem to be doing OK.

Above - pampas fronds get everywhere. I cut some of the tattier looking fronds down yesterday so it looks a bit tidier now.

pampas

Perhaps this frond is keeping the tips of the magnolia free from frost!?

pigs

The pigs are subjected to all sorts of rough treatments as the birds, squirrels, foxes and cats all clamber about on them, knock them over etc. The seem to be surviving the onslaught.

catkins

Squirrel food in course of preparation!

skimmia

Another splash of red - this time from the skimmia japonica.

fir

As you can see, the grass needs some attention. It will be added to Jonathon's jobs list.

red robin

The Red Robin is already turning colour. There are many good things about gardening but the heralding of Spring is one of the best!

The results of having the tree lowered - lovely wood waiting to dry out and be used as logs in a year or two to come.

heather

The darker heather is just starting to flower (I might have written that last month as well but I've not seen much progress).

The lighter heather, on the other hand, is full of flowers.

seedhead

Must have missed this one when I was deadheading last Autumn.

holly

Not sure why the mini-holly is red at this time of year but it is.

primrose

Our first primrose of the season.

rose

The roses are starting to leaf up.

More yummy kale for Jonathon!

broadbeans

Broad beans - one of my favourite vegetables. They survived a very cold January, not to mention snow.

onion

Managed to get my onions planted yesterday. The canes are there to try and stop the blackbirds from pulling them out again.

That's it for this month.
