Our Garden - January 2014 |
I thought I'd start this month's page with some photos of the front garden as I very rarely take the camera into there. There are still a few roses out but the dogwoods are the stars at this time of year. That said, Spring must be on the way as the aconites are already showing and making the front garden look pretty. |
Returning to the back garden and, as you can see, it was a frosty morning. The frost was already starting to thaw as I wandered around but it didn't feel very warm! |
A lot of the shrubs and bushes had a lovely, sparkly, frosty covering. |
The
soft fruit beds are tucked up for winter and the cabbages etc are just about surviving the onslaught of the pigeons. Now they've had a touch of frost, they're probably ready to be eaten. |
The veg beds have been dug over and I was delighted to see how many worms were living in the soil. We had to buy some earth worms in when we first moved here but they seem to be happy enough now.
Looking back to the house, you can tell from the light that it was still quite early in the morning. I'd only gone into the garden to get some kale for dinner but then decided the frostiness was too good not to photograph so off I went. I was frozen when I got back inside (but I had remembered the kale!) |
Even when the trees have no leaves, they can still be really pretty. |
The pampas has been really battered from the recent heavy rain and strong winds but the fronds that are still there are standing tall and proud. The white rose bush that we moved towards the end of last Summer is thriving and seems to be very happy where it is now. |
There are still a few berries around for the birds but the grapes have just about all been eaten. The birds have left the Pyracantha berries until February the last couple of years so perhaps what they're doing this year as well. That's all for this month. |
