Our Garden - January 2017
snow

Lots of crispy, sunny days in this month and even some snow.

eucapyptus

The frost makes for pretty leaves

Don't think we'll be eating outside.

sedum

Yet again, the sedum looks pretty.

broadbeans

The broad beans are not suffering too badly in the chilly weather.

kale

Kale looks different when covered in snow.

gardeninsnow

The pond survived the snow but when I went to the shed today all the power was off. Not good for the pond (the pump has now frozen up) and definitely not good for the plants in the shed. Thankfully most of them seem to have survived and we've got the power back on so the bubble pump will, hopefully, keep some air in the pond.

As to the pump ... who knows. I hope that we won't have any burst pipes / parts when it thaws out.

The fish were still swimming around so they seem OK as well!

leaves

The frost makes the leaves very sparkly.

heuchera

The snow went and was replaced by frost and lovely sunny days.

Frosty rosettes on this side and frosty helebore on the right.

lavender

Even the lavender gets a look in with the frosty sparkle.

heather

The heather's starting to flower so I expect more pink and purple by the end of the month.

euonymus

The euonymus adds a touch of rich gold.

Oli

Oli has become a regular companion as I walk around the garden. His particular interest is the pond. Went skating on the pond today so that was fun trying to get him away from it as he could see the fish moving under the ice!

cornus

There is more colour in the garden with the cornus.

garden

It's funny how the same day can either look warm or chilly depending on where I stand in relation to the sun to take my photos. Hard to believe this photo and the one above were taken within a couple of minutes of each other.

hazel

Squirrel food in the making.

pampas

Pampas - Jonathon still doesn't like it even when it sparkles!!

birdbath

Poor birds - the water was frozen solid. Still lots of bird visitors to the garden - perhaps they are managing to get water from the non-frozen bit of the pond.

Even ivy can sparkle!

Oli

Oli again - wondering what to chase next. Squirrels are a favourite but they're far too fast for him.

That's it for this month.

Jonathon took most of the snowy photos for this month and we'll wander around again next month and post some more photos.
