Our Garden - July 2013
A few photos from the beginning of July, mainly from the front garden but first these three from the back. |
Having fretted over whether we'd over-pruned the trees, they came back with avengence. Moving to the front garden .... |
The paeony is lovely - a bit later than some but beautiful when it flowers. |
The alstromaeria also put on a good show. This one is Orange Glory ... |
... and this smaller one is Princess Ragna. |
It's now the end of July. You'll see from the photos that we hadn't had much rain - the grass was really brown and our water butts were empty. It started to rain soon after I'd taken the photos - very welcome! All the following photos are from the back garden. |
We pruned this hydrangea back quite hard a couple of years ago so no flowers last year but back with us this year. |
The heads from our hydrangeas go to some friends of our who make soap and use the petals from the hydrangeas to decorate the packaging. Good to think they are useful as well as very pretty. |
Beautiful poppies - I just love them. |
If you look very carefully at the photo on the left you'll see there's a Jonathon in it. He was doing Jonathon type things in the garage. |
This is the rose that Mum and Dad bought us when we first moved here. It's looking lovely this year. |
The hostas on the left confirm that sheep wool pellets keep the slugs and snails at bay - they've never looked so free of chomp marks. |
We love to see wildlife, animals, birds and insects, in our garden and we particularly like to see bees. They spend a lot of time on the lavender. |
These cornflowers were free seeds from Hampton Court flower show last year to encourage bees and butterflies - they certainly do that. |
These daisy type flowers came from the same wildflower seed packet as the cornflowers. |
I wasn't going to grow any sweet peas this year (except those that self seed every year) but I got some free seeds so planted them. They've done really well. I pick some every couple of days or so to have in the house. |
As you can see, the veg beds are doing pretty well and keeping us supplied with tasty food. That's it for this tour around! |
