Our Garden - June 2013
I wandered round the garden with my camera on 4 June, a lovely summer evening .... |
There are lots of flowers scattered about here and there! |
A hungry visitor eating the food I'd put out for the birds. |
I really should rake the gravel .... but life's too short! |
The Alliums have self seeded quite a bit - they are very welcome. |
The foliage provides a lot of colour in the garden as well. The story goes that as you grow older you start to appreciate shrubs etc more. Perhaps I was there years ago as I've always loved trees and shrubs far more than bedding etc. |
Best of all is food! The potatoes on the right are doing really well ... |
... as are the onions and broad beans. The carrots, peas, French beans and runner beans are all doing OK. the courgettes look like they're not sure whether to grow or not (might pick up now the weather's better) and the leeks are a bit hit and miss. The strawberries and gooseberries are netted so we have a chance of getting some of them. The rasps are Autumn Bliss so they're safe for now! |
Acers are wonderful! |
The Lily of the Valley smell lovely. |
It's now June 15th and I've been weathered off. Sharp showers now and again but the wind is pretty strong so I've wandered around with my camera and called it a day. |
Not a slug bite in sight (so far at least!!). The sheep wool pellets are doing a good job of putting them off. |
When the ladybirds arrived there were no aphids (too cold?) I think I need some more ladybirds because there's no shortage of aphids now! |
The photo on the right shows how late the Robinia is in coming into leaf. We had the trees hard pruned last year but even allowing for that it is very late. |
I think this might be the cub of the fox at the top of the page. They do go around together from time to time. |
Food is what gardening is really all about!! |
That's it for this tour around! |
