Our Garden - June 2015 |
It's June but not very warm! The fish are very busy swimming and shoaling about so they obviously realise the summer has arrived but some of the flowers and veg are a bit behind. |
The strawberries are ripening up nicely and they are really tasty and sweet. |
The gooseberries aren't as prolific as last year but there are still a few. After last year's carrot disaster I've decided to grow some in pots this year - so far, so good. |
Plenty more food to come.
We've already started on the first early (Swift) potatoes - very nice too.
This is not an onion but of the onion family! |
This fuchsia has gone mad this year! |
These grasses are in full flower. |
Lots of flowers around, not least on the pyracantha and, delighted to say, the tomatoes. |
June is always a good month for roses and this year s no exception. More photos further down the page. |
The cistus also adds colour in a few places in the garden. |
I cut the tamarisk back before taking a few more photos so some of them have big fronds of tamarisk in the bed on the right and some are after it was tidied up! |
Lady's Mantle spreads itself around the garden. I really like the way the leaves form and the water sits on them after it's rained. I'm less keen on the yellow flowers. |
This is another plant that spreads itself around but usually only in the bed it's already in. It is doing well and adds a lovely splash of yellow. |
This potentilla is doing better this year - perhaps the harder than normal prune I gave it helped? |
Bedding this year includes nemesia, ... |
... which are at the base of the robinia tree with a poppy or two, ... |
... snapdragons, ... |
... which have been planted in a couple of beds, ... |
... nicotiana, which are also in a few beds |
... and cosmos, to add both height and colour. |
Not satisfied with providing colour all round with their leaves, the heuchera flower as well! |
This foxglove seems to be hiding in the acer. |
The roses at the front are peeping round the corner. |
The nigella is an amazing plant. There were only a couple out when I wandered round but there are loads to come. |
The alstromaeria "Orange Glory" are in full bloom and making the front garden look colourful. That's it for this time. I'll add more photos next month. |
