Our Garden - March 2015 |
Early March and we had a lovely two day weekend so I took advantage and cut the grass. There are stripes but not as straight as Jonathon's would have been! |
The heather is still looking pretty and colourful. |
The Red Robin is starting to grow its red leaves for the year. |
As you can see from the photo on the right, I also managed to get the pampas cut back this weekend (horrible job so I'm delighted that it's done for the year). |
The fish are very active again so spring must have arrived. Another horrible job I managed to get done this weekend was cleaning out my shed. |
A few daffs are already out. I dare say that there'll be a few more out when I go round the garden with my camera again later in the month. |
There are quite a few more daffs out in the front garden. Not many photos of the front garden this time because we've got scaffolding up to fix the roof. |
The primulae are doing well. |
Good to see the roses springing back to life again. |
The crocuses had closed up by the time I went out with the camera but they had been fully open enjoying the sun during the afternoon. |
The pigs have moved further up the garden so they're not in the way of the bluebells. |
You can only imagine what kind of position I had to get into to take this photo of the helebores. |
The snowdrops are still putting on a good show. |
This purple broccoli is really tasty. |
These are our new strawberry towers - hope they work OK. |
It's time to say goodbye to the teasels. Weather permitting they'll be cut down tomorrow as will the ornamental grass. (Later note - they were indeed but down!) |
It's late March now and the snowdrops have died back but the hyacinths and anemones (not to mention the daffodils) are providing plenty of colour. |
Not all the early spring flowers have died back. This cyclamen is still thriving. |
We seem to have a few mahonia plants around the garden. I've not planted any so I can only assume they've come in from somewhere else, either self seeded or via an animal or bird. |
The heathers are still pretty colourful as well. |
These older hyacinths seem to be much further along then the new ones in the patio beds. |
Looks like we might get some rhubard this year (yummy). |
I've done a fair bit of digging today - hope I'm not too stiff tomorrow! The forsythia is starting to look lovely. |
We have a few sedum around the garden. I think they're interesting all year around. At this time, they have these lovely tight foliage followed later on by their pink flowers that gradually turn into brown seedheads that the birds enjoy. |
The fish are all very busy shoaling around now the weather's warmer. |
I'm hoping that the small curved bed on the right will be full of colourful wallflowers before too much longer. They are showing plenty of promise! |
Daffodils confirm that spring is on the way and that's possibly why it's one of my favourite type of flowers. |
The primulas at the base of the robinia have been (and continue to be) very colourful. Really pleased with them. |
The photinia (left) look like they will be a very bright red this year. The skimmia (above) is starting to grow well and gives us a splash of gentle red during the winter. |
The spiraea is starting to show off its colour. I love these bushes - so dramatic at this time of year. Not quite as keen on the pink flowers later though. |
The kerria japonica is starting to flower and should provide a lovely yellow hedge in a week or two. |
The seats are a good excuse for a sit down and enjoy the garden (and have a rest) |
This small leafed holly provides plenty of berries for the birds at this time of year. We think we have robins is nesting near this bush and bluetits in the nesting box close by as well. |
More spiraea - a redder version in the front garden. |
These daffodils like to show off their trumpets more than some of the others. |
The quince clearly liked its severe "hair cut" in autumn. |
That's it for March. I'll wander around with my camera again in April. |
