Our Garden - November 2015 |
Autumn is always a lovely time of year in the garden, not least because the Acers put on their best show, as do many of the other shrubs and trees. |
This is the tree I bought with my leaving present (Garden voucher) from HSBC all those years ago. |
Even the baby Acer is putting on a show. |
The Cotinus is giving the Acers a good run for colour. |
It's good to see some less fiery colours in the garden - gives my eyes a rest. |
Amazing to see the Snapdragons still in full flower even though it's 1 November. We've not had any frost so fat this autumn so perhaps that's why. |
There are quite a few other plants still in flower so plenty of colour around. |
The cornus in the front garden are also very colourful and the Alstromaeria is re-flowering because it's been so mild. |
Together with the berries on the Cotoneaster and the red rose that's decided to flower again, there's plenty to see in the front. |
The climbing Hydrangea at the bottom of the garden has turned a lovely yellow colour ... |
... whereas the main shrub Hydrangea is fading to a dark pink - very pretty. |
There are lots and lots of berries around the garden. Does this mean that it will be a harsh winter? |
These are the older Chrysanths in the front garden - they are putting the new ones to shame! |
Even the smaller bushes are showing their lovely autumn colours. It's hard to grasp that the leaves only turn colour because they're dying. |
I call these Snowballs because that's what the remind me of - they usually appear at this time of year. Someone once warned us that this shrub spreads - they were right. |
The photo on the left gives an idea of how bright the sun was. It turned really misty in the afternoon so I was pleased I'd gone round in the morning. |
There are some interesting shapes around as well. |
I think the English translation for this interesting plant is "Stinky Iris". |
The Pampas is doing its usual wonderful stuff. |
Whilst the weather has been mild, it's also been a bit damp - perfect growing conditions for fungus. |
There are a few interesting seedheads around. It's always a dilemma as to whether I should leave them or cut them down. Leaving them feels like the right thing to do (for the birds) but they look a bit untidy. |
The Heuchera provide colour all year. Although they flower, I grow them for their foliage. |
The Lilac tree was catching the morning sun beautifully as I wandered around. That's it for this time. I'll add more photos next month. |
