Our Garden - November 2016

acer

November - it's all about the acers.

I've included photos that I took about 10 days apart as the garden changes quite quickly at this time of year.

fuchsia

The hardy fuchsias are still going strong.

spiraea

It's not just the acers that give us lovely autumn colour.

spiky plant

It was getting quite late when I went round with my camera in the first half of November.

sedum

Sedum - good for most of the year round as it changes colour from light to dark.

pampas

Jonathon's least favourite plant in the garden - I think it's lovely.

cotinus

The photo on the left is from early in the month, this one is from later. It's not just a change in light that makes the leaves look different - they really have changed colour in the 10 days.

berries

There are also plenty of berries adding colour (and providing food for the birds)

berries

We're on the later walk around for the general views now. You can see how the largest acer has really bright foliage. One of the smaller acers has lost all its leaves and the palmate one has lost most of its leaves but this one has plenty left at present.

ivy

There is some green around the garden so you can rest your eyes.

berries

More berries - I don't think these look quite as appetising but I'm not a bird.

cotoneaster

There's plenty of these berries around as well - both in the front garden and the back.

Along with the red, there's also yellow. A lovely combination of autumn colours.

hydraleaves

In case you're wondering, we haven't got a cat. This one seems to have adopted us and we're not sure where he/she lives when not with us. We've temporarily called him/her Smokey as we don't know any better.

begonia

The begonia's are still doing well. We've only had one or two frosty mornings so far this year so nothing to damage them too much.

leaves

The leaves on the path on the right have since been raked up!

grape

Who could believe that dying grape leaves could look so pretty?

silver birch

I spent quite a long time today sweeping up leaves from this silver birch tree as well as the others.

leaves

It was a damp day but made for shiny leaves.

chrysanthemum

We have a few Chrysanthemums in the front garden - just to add a bit more colour.

chrysanthemum

I don't think we expected this one to be quite this pink.

fern

The fern hasn't started to die back yet - just a matter of time and colder weather.

kale

This is the only veg I have growing in the garden at the moment - not Jonathon's favourite!

pyracantha

A blast of final colour for this page with lots of acer leaves and pyracantha berries.
