Jubilee Weekend 2012
jc

Our celebrations started with a street garden party. There were about 34 of us and many of us were dressed in red white and blue. No photos of the actual event but his is us!

Terry and Barbara had decked out their garden with lots of balloons, tables with red, white and blue cloths and serviettes etc.

Barbara had made lovely pavlova using strawberries for the red parts of the union flag, blueberries for the blue and the meringue itself for the white.

Trevor and Yolande had pulled it all together with them and the whole afternoon was really enjoyable.

Thankfully it was on the Saturday so dry and that gave us the chance to join Carole and co for a Jubilee tea on the Sunday. Unfortunately Paul & Pauline couldn't join us as, instead of doing lots of eating, they were keeping fit by leading a cycling weekend.

As you can see, Carole had decorated the tables in appropriate red, blue and white. The table cloth on this table was bought by Mum & Dad on their honeymoon in London squillions of years ago - and it's still going strong!

We started the afternoon with a quiz - all linked to Queen / royalty etc in some way or other (however spurious). This was followed by a beetle drive and then the national anthem.

Tea was a traditional party tea complete with sandwiches, crisps, dips, cheese and pineapple on sticks, sausages etc. All this was followed by cake, trifle, jelly, ice cream etc. Delicious!

All too soon the party was over - we had planned to go to Christine and Gordon's (no photos) and Carole, Gareth and Graeme were going to Scarborough so Graeme was there ready for cricket on the Monday.

Our final "activity" was to go to St. John's URC on the Monday evening and watch the beacon being lit. There was a good crowd there despite the chilly weather. Prior to the lighting of the beacon the concert was shown on big screens in the church and there had been a lot of other things going on during the evening.

We can relax now - it's alight!
