Mum & Dad's Golden Wedding |
Mum and Dad celebrated their Golden Wedding on 2nd December 2008 so we all got together for a party! The party was held at The Anchor Inn at Whixley on Saturday 6th.
The Anchor did us proud. We had a private room and in case we'd forgotten why we were there, someone had very kindly supplied a balloon to remind us! Mum and Dad had organised for Judith and her accordion band to play for us while we ate. The cards that had arrived before the party were all set out on a table (they seemed to have doubled in number by the end of the evening) and the Wedding album, Silver Wedding album, "leaving Whixley" and "selling the farm" albums were all set out for people to browse through. |
Mum and Dad met people at the bar as they arrived but there were soon far too many people to stand in the bar area so we moved into the room. |
The albums were very popular and soon got people talking (not that it takes much to get our family / friends talking anyway!) |
Before very long it was time to eat. The Anchor's speciality is a carvery and there was a huge choice so we all got just what we wanted. The puddings were pretty good too! |
When we'd all had enough to eat it was time for a couple of speeches. Despite strict instuctions for no presents (donations to Yorkshire Air Ambulance instead, we had decided to give Mum and Dad some David Austen Golden Celebration roses so there was a short presentation first. |
Shirley's speech took the form of a verse. |
It seemed to go down fairly well and people laughed in the right places so that was good!
At the end of the speech, there was the toast and Mum and Dad were handed the speech for posterity!
Dad responded by thanking everyone etc. etc He and Mum then waltzed round the dance floor as the band played the Anniversary Waltz |
The formalities out of the way there was plenty of time to mingle and catch up with everybody's news. The photos are in no particular order and apologies for those that are a bit fuzzy! |
When standing up and talking gets too tiring, you can always sit down! |
And, as you can see, a good time was had by all!
