Sissinghurst Castle Gardens

We had a lovely day out at Sissinghurst in August 2016. The gardens were spectacular and we took loads of photos, a few of which I'll put on this page.

Sissinghurst is probably most famous for its white garden but there were plenty of other garden rooms to visit (hope we didn't miss any).

We deliberately didn't go to the lake, go into the house or up the tower or do the three mile walk as it will give us an excuse to go again another day.

As you can see, there were a lot of "hot" coloured flowers in full bloom.

Some flowers were more dramatic than others and there were plenty of insects, butterflies and birds around.

Even the sky was pretty!

hollyhock

I'd not seen a frilly / double hollyhock before so this was a great surprise.

One of our favourite gardens was the wildflower garden - just through the entry gate. It was really pretty (and would probably have been even prettier a couple of weeks earlier!)

We both really like daisies!

Lots of immaculately pruned hedges divided the garden rooms. It was a lovely contrast to the more relaxed planting.

The sun was lovely and warm and lit up some of the flowers beautifully.

As you would imaginge, there were loads of white flowers!

We both enjoyed taking photos of the lovely sunflowers.

There was plenty of shade in case the sun got too warm ...

... and plenty of green in case your eyes need a rest.

house

The castle / house is for another visit but it made a good backdrop for some of the gardens.

The climb up the tower is also for another day's visit!

The white garden certainly lived up to its reputation.

The moat was calm and peaceful. Jonathon was trying out a new camera and its various settings as demonstrated in the next photo.

The vegetable garden was wonderful and even better because of the lovely views across the Kent countryside.

oast houses

Did I mention that the food in the Granary restaurant was delicious? Locally sourced with their own veg.

A short stroll past the oast houses and back to the car park for the journey home.

What a lovely day!
