Tanzania March 2013 - Day 3 |
Still in the Ndutu area we thought we'd focus on Lions today having had such a good Cheetah day yesterday ... little did we know! First an incredible sunrise to welcome another beautiful day (we were pretty lucky with the weather). |
A few birds to start the day's pictures ... This is what a Tawny Eagle looks like when it's wet |

Kevin took us to a place known as the Secret Valley - it was very pretty. |
Now the cats. We had an amazing day. First up were these 4 Lion Brothers who seemed to be having a great time rolling in fresh elephant dung. They were pretty filthy when they'd finished. Kevin told us that this was quite unusual behaviour - it's always good when he sees something new as well. |
There was a Mongoose in this bush but they were too slow to catch it and we were too slow to photograph it when it shot out. |
The Cheetah brothers that we saw yesterday were not quite as full today and were out hunting. They were very skilful, working as an experienced team and took down a Wildebeest with relative ease. |
Cheetah suffocate their prey so the brother on the left did that while the other one started eating. The cries from the Wildebeest were heart rending. |
Back to less gruesome topics and we came across a Mum and two cubs - a different family to the one we'd seen the day before. These cubs were younger. |
We saw a few more Lions as well. |
There was a lot of rolling about by both of these two - obviously happy in their partnership. |
A lovely sunset ended off the day nicely and off we went to Olakira Camp. I never thought I'd say this but it was so good to be back in the bush under canvas! |
Photo from Richard to be added
It was great to see Richard there. We'd met him at Dunia last year and were lucky that he was covering for the Olakira manager just for that week so our time at Olakira overlapped. |
