London Wetland Centre |
For my 50th birthday Jonathon bought me a day with Iain Green, one of our favourite wildlife photographers. Iain's a big fan of London Wetland Centre in Barnes, South West London (and so am I now I've spent a day there with him). We had a great day with lots of wildlife to photograph as you'll see below. |
It's a lovely green space with plenty of room to stroll around. This cheeky chappy was very kind a did a few different poses for us |
There were lots of flowers and plants to photograph as well as the birds and other flying things! |
2 of the lawnmowers are in the photo on the left. There were lots of insects around, some prettier than others and, of course, loads and loads of water fowl. |
These Coots were apparently fighting for territory - they did seem pretty aggressive. |
The Dragon Flies were not at all easy to photograph - they either hid, were camoflaged or were simply too fast. |
There were also lots of Frogs around, peeping out of the water |
The bees, moths and other insects loved the scabious. |
What a lovely Damsel Fly - such beautiful colours |
This is a smaller Grebe than the Great Crested ones but still very pretty |
Lots of duckings and other baby birds were swimming around |
London Wetland Centre covers 42 hectares, a short train journey away from Waterloo Station in London. It's hard to believe that this area used to house 4 old, concrete reservoirs - so much prettier now! |
The Herons will perch anywhere to get a good view |
There was Loosestrife everywhere making lovely purple swathes of colour |
It's one of nine specialist wetland visitor centres, part of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust that was founded in 1946 by Sir Peter Scott |
Apparently these little Plovers are usually further away so we were very lucky to get a photo or two. |
As you can see, the colours were stunning |
These are Six Spotted Burnet Moths - lovely colours and very keen on the scabious and other flowers. |
I had a wonderful day and hope to go back there with Jonathon and his camera one day so he can enjoy it as well. |
