2020 Lockdown Diary - Page 5

12 September

Continuing with the revisiting of my regular haunts, today was Crofton and Sparrow Woods. The sunrise was a really good start to the day but I was surprised to see the road sign / barriers outside Crofton School - they weren't there last week! The woods were as lovely as ever with plenty of green still in evidence and some of the trees starting to change into their autumn colours.

Fay worked us really hard at the park gym so no doubt we'll all ache tomorrow but I was glad I went despite being stiff from all the driving earlier in the week.

Jonathon phoned the NHS - the 21 September phone appointment is to be ignored and only the face to face one on the 22nd applies so at least he only has to repeat everything once. I'm allowed to go with him so at least he'll have some moral support.

Emily (former colleague) came over with Scarlet and Rosie for the afternoon - it was lovely to see them. Emily would be more than happy to work from home for the rest of her career but I can't see pbb allowing that. She is really pleased the girls are back in school as they are both live wires. They were fascinated by the pebbles in the garden but were pretty good at amusing themselves most of the 3 hours they were here.

So, whose stupid idea was it to do Shreena's body pump class the day after Fay's park gym? By the end of this morning's class I was really tired and felt very achy. It was a lovely morning and I went to Goddington Park before the class and Priory Gardens afterwards to admire the birds.

Usual Sunday stuff after that - on-line service, Skype with Mum and Dad (no news) etc.

I should have been "Singing for Water" this weekend so a bit upset that it's yet another thing that's been cancelled.

As I got up a bit later than normal I didn't get as many steps done this morning as I should have done so went to Darrick and Newstead Woods / Tubbenden Meadows in the afternoon. They looked lovely in the late afternoon sun.

Made some bread for tea so had bread, jam (donated by Christine and Carole) and pate - Oli wanted to be around us but not to be touched!

Spoke to Christine. They've finished harvest but Gordon has had a fall off a ladder so is in a pretty bashed up way. Nothing is broken but he's got lots of cuts and bruises and can only eat really soft food so Christine is even busier than normal.

One of Gordon's friends died recently (cancer) and the funeral is on Tuesday. As per the rules, very few people will be allowed at the funeral itself whereas there will be a lot of people wanting to go there. As a result, the plan is for the farmers to follow the hearse in their tractors. Should be quite a spectacle.

Had a lovely walk to Keston Common and Ponds this morning. It's a beautiful place albeit that there are signs around warning people about blue-green algae which is a danger to dogs etc. To get to Keston I have to walk along the A232 - traffic levels were back to pre-lockdown levels and it vaguely resembled a slow moving car park. Good to tell people are going back to work.

Had lunch at Masala Dabbas. The plastic screens are still up but no temperature taken because one of the staff dropped the machine and it broke in two. Needless to say it's not been replaced.

Went to have my hair cut only to find I'd booked it for next Monday not today. The woman there had a space so she cut it for me - I feel like I've been shorn - it's really short. I guess it will grow!

Was supposed to have a call from Stefan this afternoon about my work but he got called into a meeting that he couldn't escape so we're going to try again tomorrow. Hopefully there won't be as much noise next door tomorrow - Thames Water have been using a kanga drill most of today (on and off) to try and locate a leak / the pipe etc. What a din!

It was still dark when I got up and I was surprised how misty it was. I waited until it was a bit lighter then went to Hawkwood Estate / Petts Wood for a walk round the yellow route. It felt really autumnal with mist and lots of cobwebs. The sun soon burnt it off and we had another lovely warm day (too hot for gardening but we got the quilts aired and the covers washed). On my way round, I saw Richard and his wife (from the gym) who were quizzing me about the gym, how it worked etc.

After Pop Master, I went to the gym for a cycle etc. and was pleased to see the pool actually had a bit of water in it for the first time in ages. I'll check again tomorrow to see if it's any fuller but I have no idea how they are going to make it work through the colder months if we can't use the changing rooms.

Stefan called in the evening. The project I was going to go back to work on has been postponed yet again - this time to 2021 and they're not even sure whether it will be Q1 or Q2. I guess Emily must have said something after she was here on Saturday because Stefan asked me how I'd feel about providing support to the workout team (i.e. Emily and Chris). The green and red bubble arrangement wouldn't work for 3 days per week but it could probably work on 2 weeks on (full time) and 2 weeks off (not working!). He'll discuss what's possible with Ulrike (Emily's boss), HR and various others and get back to me with a view to me starting back in October..

The radio alarm woke me up this morning ready for body pump - starts at 6.45 a.m. Walked to Goddington Park after the class then across the empty field (was corn in the Summer). Back to the gym for a workout before dinner then Skype with Mum (Dad was at Alan's) in the afternoon.

Teresa came to do the cleaning and we finished pruning the Hazel tree (Jonathon had to help with the bits I couldn't reach).

After tea we sussed out the route to the critical care clinic for next Tuesday and called into Sainsbury's on the way home. The sunset was beautiful.

17 September

A furry, Oli shaped alarm woke me up this morning at about 5 a.m. Having got him to settle down for all of 10 minutes he decided it really was getting up time even if it was only so I could open the front window for him because he was too lazy to use his cat door. It was surprisingly chilly but at least setting off early meant I had plenty of time to walk to High Elms and admire their pretty gardens, woodland and the surrounding farmland.

Thursdays mean park gym so I did that and picked up some pasties to have for lunch on the way home, the plan being to eat them before the chimney sweep came. When I got home he was already there and half way through what needed to be done. He left the invoices (one per chimney) as they also provide a certificate for each individual chimney but when I tried to pay them there were no bank details listed so Jonathon will have to talk to them tomorrow.

I was intending to do some gardening this afternoon but it was too hot early afternoon and then by the time it had cooled down and I'd done some other bits of jobs, it was too chilly (any excuse to avoid weeding).

Stefan called, I think terms are now agreed for my return to work in my allocated "bubble". In summary, this means 2 weeks working in the office and 2 weeks not working. It will be interesting to see how that works out. With a start date of 1 October, I really had better get some gardening done before then.

Jonathon went to London with his cameras for his first evening, indoor gig. He was really nervous but he knows the organiser, the artist and the venue really well and has been allocated the balcony all to himself as well as free roaming downstairs, subject to social distancing, so he should be fine. If he doesn't feel comfortable at all he can simply come home. I dare say he'll be shattered tomorrow but it's good that there is some semblance of normality coming back.

I had a longish walk this morning to Scadbury Park / Nature Reserve, setting off before dawn after a lovely night's sleep.

We had brunch at the Orpington (Jonathon eating a lot better nowadays) and then I went to Paracise as usual.

Finally managed to get some gardening done - pruning today!

Watched ROH's streaming of Carmen as our evening treat.

19 September

Quite a few photos from today as I didn't get up early enough to go for a morning walk so took the camera round the garden for a change. Oli came and joined me in bed at 5.30 a.m. and settled down to sleep so I followed his example and it was after 7 a.m. before we got up. I was due at the park for 9.45 a.m. and wanted to check the route for tennis before this afternoon's gathering so took a longer way round and that had to do. Needless to say, Fay made us work really hard!

Tennis was really good fun. Carol, who organised it, used to play regularly and wasn't bad; Allison, who really plays football rather than tennis, was pretty good. The other two weren't good but seemed to enjoy themselves and I think we all got better as the hour progressed. Carol thought my serves were really fast - didn't have the heart to tell her that I'd put no power at all behind them, too busy trying to make sure they went over the net and into the right square! Hopefully, we'll be able to do it again before too long. If not, I'll think about joining Bromley Tennis Centre and playing that way - need to hear from work first so I know what time I'll have and I'll need to buy a racket!

Only did 15.6 km today but decided that was near enough after all the gym and tennis etc.

Had a short walk and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise before gym class. Got the last Sunday Times from the Co-op (didn't realise it was so popular), listened / watched the on-line service and started weeding the veg beds after dinner and before Skype.

Gilda's coming for a walk tomorrow so tested out a route.

Christine call - Gordon was in A&E all day Friday and ended up having some stitches (all the result of his ladder fall) and is now on antibiotics. Christine has been scammed by someone who claimed to be BT. It looks like they've caught it early enough so they didn't lose any money (unlike their friends who had their accounts cleaned out). She's just waiting for Barclays (Gordon's bank) to catch up (apparently Bank of Scotland and First Direct were far more helpful).

21 September

My intention this morning was to walk to Bromley to go to JD Sports and check on tennis rackets. The walk took me via Jubilee Park and I arrived in Bromley early enough to enjoy the lovely park there. JD Sports was a bit late opening and then I learned that they don't sell rackets! It wasn't a complete waste of a journey because I'd done most of my steps by the time I got home (came on the train) and I got a bit of shopping while I was there.

Brunch was at the Orpington (we were introduced to Liam, the new staff member). On the way home I popped into Boots Opticians. It's more than 6 months since my eye test so don't really want to pay for new glasses on such an old test. We agreed that we'd forget this one and start again in January 2021.

I caught up with the ironing and did a bit of weeding until Gilda arrived for our walk. Pleased to say that the weather had improved by dinner time so we had a lovely sunny walk.

22 September

After a bit of a murky start, the sun got up and it was a lovely day. Walked to Chelsfield Green Recreation Ground (didn't realise that's what it was called!). Did an hour or so in the gym then got ready to go to the Critical Care Centre with Jonathon. Good news in that he doesn't need an operation but consultant still thinks he should have a CT scan to be on the safe side (he has a 2 cm lesion on one of his kidneys) so we need to wait for an appointment for that now - 2 to 4 weeks apparently. We went to Zi' Teresa for tea on the way home from the clinic to celebrate.

Other good news for today is that we received the holiday refund so we can close that file and find something to spend it on!

As the weather is forecast to turn horrible from tomorrow, I decided to put the doors back on my greenhouse. One of the eight panes shattered and scared me half to death. Thankfully we have a spare pane of glass so that can be tomorrow's job (we did clear up the glass so the animals don't cut their paws).

Boris Johnson addressed the nation at 8 p.m., tightening everything up to try and slow down the number of new Covid cases. How that will impact me going back to work I don't know so email sent to Nigel to find out if the office is being closed down again.

23 September

I hadn't booked for body pump this morning but decided if I woke up in time I'd go along. Oli had other ideas. Just as I was thinking "if I'm going I need to get up", he came and snuggled close so we both went back to sleep and woke up again just as the class was finishing! Walk was therefore necessarily short as I didn't have a huge amount of time.

Went to gym and did my stuff. Just about finished when one of the trainers said there was a challenge to do 1 minute of step ups. I was never going to be top of the leader board for that but had a go and did 45. Luis (Thursday trainer) came into the gym and did 74!

After dinner we went to Sportsdirect and got me a tennis racket and some new balls (that actually bounce!) so all set for our next run around on 3 October.

racket

In other news, Stefan emailed to ask me to reconsider working from home (no thanks) and Nigel emailed to let me know the London office was closing again so it's very doubtful that I'll be going back to work after all.

Had the usual Skype with Mum and Dad who had no real news.

Went to the Orpington for drinkings then I dropped Jonathon's repeat prescription into the docs and had a short walk about.

24 September

Far too cold and wet for a walk this morning so I did a load of washing, popped down to Sainsbury's for some bits and baked some bread. By the time I had to leave for Park Gym it had faired up but was still quite chilly and breezy. We managed OK but I was glad to have some hot soup for dinner to warm me up.

I managed to get out for a walk in the afternoon but only after a call from Angela (church friend) asking me to be an adult angel in the virtual Nativity for church. Apparently they need singers because the angels sing Silent Night. Of course, I said yes so I think I need to find an angel costume now!

My wak took me to Crofton and Sparrow Woods. Unsurprisingly there was hardly anyone else there but there were a lot of school children milling about / going home when I left the wood to go home myself.

I got home to find Oli on top of his new cardboard box. He much prefers the cardboard box to the proper Katden and has recently taken to sitting on top of it - perhaps it's warmer / he can see more - who knows.

Jonathon renewed his passport via the Post Office so just waiting for the new one to arrive. He also has an appointment for his CT scan - tomorrow afternoon which is good as it means he doesn't have to wait too long.

Final highlight of the day was spotting this lovely rainbow across from the front of our house (Jonathon took the photo) just as the sun was setting at the back.

25 September

The morning was fairly normal for a Friday - walk followed by the Orpington for brunch. The weather was horrible for my walk - raining and cold. My new boots held up well and I kept pretty warm considering.

There was a film crew at St. Paul's Church, Crofton - no idea what they were filming but the catering truck smelled lovely as I walked past!

Stefan called to confirm that the London office is closed because of the new lockdown measures and agreed it was a pain that I couldn't go back next week. He apologised for being "pushy" (hilarious - didn't even realise he was!). I explained that Yorkshire folk are harder to offend so not to worry! Things will continue as before until lockdown eases again.

After Paracise in the afternoon, I drove Jonathon to the Princess Royal for his CT scan. Despite the traffic, we were early and they took him in almost straight away which was good. His blood test was clear and we should hear back re the scan next week.

To "celebrate" we went back to the Orpington for desert and a drink. The banoffee pie was lovely but far too rich so I wouldn't have it again. Went round Priory Gardens to try and walk it off a bit. Don't be fooled by the photo - although it was lovely and sunny, the wind was quite fierce and cold.

Watched the latest Royal Opera House stream in the evening.

26 September

Usual start to a Saturday with a walk then park gym. My walk was to Petts Wood where it felt very autumnal. I'm surprised how much fungus there is around this year. No idea why but there seems to be far more than usual.

Park gym was fun but it's getting a bit too cold for me to be doing that sort of stuff outside when I can do it in the gym instead! Unfortunately, I can't have Fay as a personal trainer for £5 per week so I guess the park it has to be for now.

Jonathon cut the grass while I got dinner ready then I scattered lawn fertiliser around as required. It rained while we ate then rained again later so the fertiliser should be nicely watered in.

We managed to fix the greenhouse so that's ready for winter. As it was such a cold day I hibernated after that with my paper, book etc. I even lit the fire to make the house more cosy.

27 September

I set off before dawn today to get some walking done before body pump. As the days are getting shorter, we'd invested in a Hi Viz vest so it was tested out this morning.

Body Pump seemed really hard - there were a couple of new exercises. Add those to the arm exercises that we did with Fay yesterday and they were tricky.

The on-line service was good as usual. Church opens next week for limited congregation so it will be interesting to see how that goes.

It was another cold day so we lit the fire. Oli seemed quite bemused with it and soon moved away when he got too warm.

Had Skype with Mum and Dad - no real news (as usual) then went to church to steward for the people who wanted to come in for private prayer. As before, nobody came so I had a good chat with Charlie (our youth minister) then came home after the hour and a half.

Jonathon did his tax return. Pleased to say they owe him some money so that'll go a little way towards the amount I owe them. Had a chat with Christine. Gordon is recovering but there was no real news.

For some reason, we lost our internet connection in the early evening. Everything is switched off as I type and we'll try again tomorrow.

28 September

After the last few cold and really windy days, today was beautiful. My walk was to Richmal Crompton Fields and back home via Sparrow and Crofton Woods - really lovely. I spent the rest of the day gardening, ably assisted by Oli who thought suppressing the weeds was a better plan than pulling them out (they've gone now). He then thought he'd try and get to the fish through the net, having explored the veg beds and tested the netting around them - think he had a good day!

The internet seems to have sorted itself out. Jonathon dealt with Hilary's Blinds - they came to mend one of our blinds that had a bit drop off recently. In the end, they decided it was covered by warranty so we should have a whole new blind rail before too long.

Finished my steps by going up to Poverest Park and enjoying the sunset.

What a lovely day!

I set off for Chislehurst Common but late up so only got as far as St Paul's Cray Common, which is part of CC but not the main bit. To get there and back I went via Petts Wood but not the usual marked route - completely off piste.

Mark phoned last night. He'll let me know when he's free but with Tower Hamlets (the borough where he lives) being one of the highest risk in London as far as Covid goes I'm not sure that I'd like to go there. Equally I'm a bit nervous letting him to come to our house. Perhaps when he is available I'll suggest we meet at Greenwich where there's plenty of fresh air and it keeps him away from Jonathon.

I went to the gym as usual and brought Greggs pasties home for dinner. While I was doing that, Jonathon listened to a BBC4 programme about Long Covid (Pauline pointed it out to us). He found it really interesting and is even more convinced that's what he has / had.

We had to stay home in shifts today because we were expecting a delivery (arrived while Jonathon was at the market talking to Greg) and for a call to let us know Shaun was ready. He passed his MOT with flying colours but needs a new tyre so Jonathon will need to sort that out.

Finished my steps walking near the river and was surprised to see an enormous fungus. Jonathon had already been to the Orpington for a coffee and I popped in on my way home from my walk for a fruit punch - didn't want to miss out.

30 September

I was greeted by a beautiful sunrise when I got up and had a lovely walk. My route today took in Goddington Park and Lilly's Wood. The skylarks were in fine song (counted 6 of them at one point) and all was well with the world.

Jonathon took Oli to the vets for his annual check up and booster jabs but by mid afternoon Oli seemed to have forgiven him and they had a good snuggle together.

I went to the gym while Jonathon did the garden shredding so the back yard is a lot tidier now.

We had a casualty this afternoon - a collared dove flew into the glass door with a really loud thud. Unfortunately it didn't survive so its body was gently placed down the garden for the foxes.

Teresa came to do the cleaning and I had the usual Skype with Mum and Dad. They didn't have any earth shattering news. Dad had managed to get the meadow seeds sown before the rain today - good timing. Mum is going to hospital for an X-ray on her thumbs and wrists on Friday to check if she can have cortisone jabs.

We went to the Orpington for coffee after Skype then stayed home instead for the rest of the day while it chucked it down outside.

1 October

Had quite a busy day today! Walk first thing - the tiny white dot in the first photo is an Egret - don't see them very often and it was flying quite quickly so not a great photo! Priory Gardens is starting to look lovely in its autumn colours.

Park gym was different today because the grass was very slippery after the rain yesterday so we each stayed in one spot most of the time and did lots of stretching and cardio stuff - a great workout.

In the afternoon I went to Greenwich to meet Mark and had a lovely walk around the park. There are lovely views across the City and Docklands from the top of the park and it was strange to see the Walkie Talkie from there rather than being inside it to restart work!

Jonathon's new passport arrived - very impressive service - just need to find somewhere to go to ues it now!

A horribly wet day so no early morning walk other than to the gym and home again. Did about an hour on the treadmill but think I managed to break the counter on my iPhone because I know I did 7 km and the phone only said 5.6km, including the walk down. Oh well, there was no way I was going to hit my target today with the wet weather so it doesn't really matter.

I had a dentist appointment to check the filling that broke while I was in Yorkshire last month. Unfortunately I need a full new filling so I have to go back again in 2 weeks for that treat!

Paracise was the only other activity for today - good fun with one new dance to learn.

Oli got a new, reflective flea collar to hopefully give him some protection when he's wandering around at night. Although he seems to spend most nights with Jonathon at the moment, with the nights drawing in fast we think better safe than sorry.

Angela went to see the consultant. Her lump is nothing to worry about which is a great relief all round.

3 October

Yet another wet morning so no walk (feeling a bit fed up with this weather already!). The rain made for pretty pictures and the acers are changing into their autumn colours and looking lovely.

Made some bread to go with soup for dinner, did a load of washing and went to the gym because Park Gym was cancelled.

Played tennis with Carol, her son Sam (11), Susanne and Allison for an hour in the afternoon. Good fun again but I think I really need to find someone a bit more my level to play against. Allison would be a good opponent but she's got a bad back at present so perhaps when she's recovered ...

We were supposed to go to Kings Place for a Sam Amidon concert this evening but Jonathon decided he didn't want to go so we stayed home instead.

Yet another rainy start so, again, no walk. Today's experiment was to see whether I could go to Body Pump, get home and showered etc. and to church on time (yes, it reopened!), especially as a nominated singer as I needed to be there by 10.10 a.m. Delighted to say it worked fine and it was lovely to sing with my Music Group friends again.

We singers stood on crosses on the "stage" for the last hymn and the blessing. It was a very emotional service, not necessarily for the content of the service, more because we could be there together, albeit in a socially distanced way. That said, "May the road rise to meet you" had quite a few in tears, especially the line "Until we meet again". It's only by going back that I realise how much I've missed it.

Decided to brave the rain and go for a wet walk between Skype call with Mum and Dad (no news) and chat with Christine. Pocklington (her area) is high risk so she's waiting to see if they go into lockdown. Christine is an essential worker so she'll still be able to do her deliveries.

Pleased to see that one of the local football teams has repainted their pavillion (shed!) - very nicely done.

5 October

It was dry when I got up so enjoyed a morning walk to Jubilee Country Park. There were a lot of dog walkers out today - presumably they've been cooped up for the last few days so they were making the most of the dry weather like I was.

Our vixen visitor was back out of her den, also taking advantage of the dry. She looks lovely in her winter coat.

Gilda came over and we went to A Mano for lunch. My salad would have been better had the dressing had significantly less garlic in it but the bacon and chicken were really nice. We then had a short walk but Gilda's knee isn't very good at all so she struggled a bit. She has finally got around to making a physio appointment so hopefully he'll be able to sort her out.

It was a beautiful morning and I enjoyed a walk through Tubbenden Meadows, Darrick and Newstead Woods and then Crofton and Sparrow Woods.

Picked up a couple of pasties for lunch on the way back from the gym.

Skype was a day early this week because Mum and Dad are going to choose some new chairs tomorrow. Did a second walk to Priory Gardens after Skype to make the most of the lovely weather. There was the occasional shower but not really enough to make me feel too wet.

I tipped my day upside down! No early morning walk, instead I went to Tesco to get the stuff for church on Sunday. It's harvest festival (but not as we would know it). There will be a rolling video and we are invited to take food for Bromley Foodbank between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. I now have my food ready to take for them. The sunrise was amazing on my way to the shop.

Park gym was brought forward a day because the forecast for tomorrow is so awful and it was good to see 10 people there (we are allowed more than 6 as it's an organised sports event!)

In the afternoon, I decided to try somewhere different for my walk and took myself off to Knockholt on the train. My Over 60s Oyster Card lets me go that far (and no further) in that direction so that seemed as good a reason as any to try there. From the station I walked through Halstead and on to Knockholt Pound before trogging along Rushmore Hill to Pratts Bottom and back home.

The scenery was beautiful, all helped by lovely sunshine and blue skies. The final "alleyway" was incredibly steep (bottom right photo) so I was very pleased when I reached the top. By the time I got home I'd done 21.8 km for the day and that was more than enough!

Christine phoned in the evening. One of her customers was querying an invoice and she couldn't work out where she'd gone wrong. I think I've worked it out for her (customer overpaid a few months ago!) but I need one final piece of paper from Christine to confirm my sums then she can go back with an explanation ( I'll provide the wording) and spreadsheet (I'll create and send to her). I'm sure her customer will be delighted to know that owe a bit less than they thought!

8 October

Wet again this morning so no early walk. Went to the gym and did some cycling (and other bits) instead. We went to Chapter One for lunch to use up one of our vouchers - as delicious as always. Onion soup for starter, salmon for me and beef for Jonathon for main and cheesecake for me and pineapple for J for desert.

It's a long time since I wore and dress, boots and make up (probably the last time I was at Chapter One).

It faired up a bit in the afternoon so went out for a short walk. I think the damper, shorter days might mean that there will be fewer days I hit my 16km / 22k steps but providing I get to the gym and do a minimum of 10k steps it's still a big improvement on where I was before lockdown / retirement.

Christine sent the final bit of paper through so the answer is now with her customer. Hope all settled but I'm on standby in case not.

Church have asked for some images from lockdown so I put a collage of local parks, woods etc. together. I'll maybe do a couple more - Birds in Priory Gardens, Flowers, Sundry - thinking cap is on.

9 October

The sunrise was beautiful and my favourite photo of it was lighting up scaffolding (whoever said scaffolding isn't pretty!). I walked up the Farnborough Recreation Group and then back via Darrick and Newstead Woods and Crofton Wood - a lovely route.

We had brunch at the Orpington. One of the other guests really didn't want to wear his face mask but Scott (quite rightly) insisted. As a restaurant 2 doors from him has been closed because they weren't sticking to the rules Scott is being extra careful. The woman this man was with had a really loud voice and was complaining bitterly about all the rules and regulations, saying they were all about control rather than health concerns (she might have a point but who is going to risk it?). Another man tried to come in without a mask and Scott asked him to put one on. The potential customer stormed out and tried to slam the door but it's on a spring hinge so his paddy had no effect. The every day life of lockdown.

Had a quick walk around Priory Gardens before Paracise then home for the rest of the day whereas Jonathon went to do some photos at an evening gig in London.

I created a couple more "posters" for Alix while he was out - one with a photo of the inside of the church and a couple of lines from a blessing "Until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand". The other one is about Social Media through lockdown. I'll get J to laminate them before Sunday then try and remember to take them with me.

10 October

Another lovely sunrise but quite a short walk because it was nice enough for park gym today. When we got to the park it was really cold because of the wind but we persevered and did the full hour. I was really pleased to know that I'd left a casserole in the oven so there'd be something to warm me up when I got home.

Went to tennis in the afternoon - just Carol and me today so we had a one set match and I'm pleased to say I won 6-3. It was quite close to start with so I had to up my game a bit which is no bad thing. The best autumn colours I'd seen so far this year were just outside the tennis centre.

Got home to discover that Jonathon had received a letter from the consultant confirming all OK and no further treatment / visits to hospital required. We are just waiting for the doctor to come back to him re the numbness in the lower half of his body now (he sent an email on Friday apparently). To celebrate we went to the Orpington for ice cream and then had something completely different! I had hummus and Jonathon had a cinnamon and orange pastry thingy.
