Hard to believe we've been here for almost 11 years now but the decor was telling us that's it was time to start again so hall, stairs and landing (one of the first areas that we had decorated after moving in) were repainted and generally tidied up. Same colour scheme as we had no intention of changing the carpet just yet. For earlier photos please click here. Whilst Terry and team were here, we also asked them to repaint the back guest room. We'd had a leak in there a little while ago and although that was fixed there were some water stains on the wall. We changed the colour from purple to blue while we were at it. For earlier photos please click here. The other inside area Terry tidied up for us was the kitchen / dining room. Again, no colour change but the main reason for the "upgrade" was that the spot lights in the kitchen were taking it in turns to stop working and every time we tried to fix it another bit of the ceiling flaked away. We therefore decided to dispense with spot lights and have new lighting installed. For earlier photos please click here. Terry also did some general tidying up outside such as re-doing the flat roof, touching up some painting etc. As you can see, his stuff was parked in the hall! Peter Leadbeater also visited us to instal some new shelving in Jonathon's room - the final step following the refurbishment from last year. |
The new colour is Dulux's First Dawn. Hopefully we'll be able to find a new lampshade and Carole says she'll make us some new cushion covers for Christmas. Until then, she has one of our new pillow cases for colour matching! |
Phil came and put the carpet back for us and this is what it looks like pending the pillow case coming home. |
Christmas time arrived and cushions were duly delivered - they are beautiful! No idea how Carole has the patience but she'd found buttons to go with all the different colours in the quilt cover and matched up the darker blue on the cover for the background of the cushion covers - wonderful! |
Not satisifed with that, Carole had also found some material to match the paler blue on the quilt cover for the cushion that lives on the chair. |
All done in here for now and this is what it looks like finished. |
There were a few bits of plaster on the walls that also needed sorting out before paint was applied. The photo on the right is looking through to the dining area. |
We stuck to the Buttercup type colours - this time a combination of Buttercup Fool 2 (kitchen), 4 (dining room) and 5 (ceiling) - all Dulux. |
<-- We moved from this.... ... to this --> and we're all done for another session |
The kitchen was also finished and everything put away |
One day we'll need to replace the worktops in the kitchen but we put off that evil day for a bit longer! |
Jonathon's room was almost completed last year but it took us a while to agree the design of the new shelving with Peter. We finally got there (pleased to note he's as fussy as we are!) and the shelving was duly installed. This (left) was the gap before it came! The photo on the right is just the start - the carcass arrived and was installed. It was much bigger than I'd anticipated but I knew Jonathon would soon fill it up! |
Until it was time to slot them in, the shelves joined Terry's stuff in the hall! |
We got our tape measure out and made sure the shelves were the right distance apart and then started the very enjoyable task of filling them. |
Terry also fitted the lights for Jonathon while he was busy doing everything else around the house! |
There were some bits of plaster to be tidied up but it was basically OK (the photo looks worse than it is in reality!). The new colour (not that you could tell much difference) was Dulux Javan Dawn 5. |
Finally it was time to start the hall, stairs and landing so the pictures were taken down, wood put away, dust covers were put down and the equipment shuffled around. |
Apparently the radiator on the top landing and the little arch shelves had to go - I found out when so I came home one day! You can't tell they were ever there now. |
That's it for 2011. |
